Landfill

Landfill

Today a Landfill is not just a rubbish dump. In fact they are a valuable source of renewable energy which can be captured and used in a variety of ways. A Landfill produces biogas (or Landfill gas) which contains in the order of 40-60% Methane CH4. This is a valuable product with many uses. Pressure Worx offers a number of technologies for the effective utilisation of biogas from landfills.

More common in Australasia is generating electricity from the biogas. Pressure Worx offer systems to remove moisture, siloxanes, VOCs, and reduce H2S suitable for burning in gas engines (CHP) or Microturbines. We offer blowers and compressors to increase pressure of the biogas when required.

Pressure Worx promote the use of Capstone Microturbines which create electricity but also plenty of high grade heat that can have many different industrial uses. For Landfills, microturbine waste heat can be used for leachate evaporation, significantly reducing volumes of leachate to handle and dispose of.  This can have a major economic benefit to any project being considered. Within New Zealand, Pressure Worx can offer the complete power station including all gas treatment and conditioning equipment, Capstone Microturbine generators and the Leachate Evaporator, providing a full turnkey equipment solution.

Biogas upgrading systems take raw landfill gas and remove the carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide, siloxanes, and moisture that are present in the biogas, creating Biomethane. This clean gas can then be used for vehicle fuel, virtual pipeline or injected directly into the gas grid.
